It gives me immense pleasure to assume the charge of the Central Tasar Research and Training Institute (CTRTI), Ranchi, a premier institution of the Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. I am privileged to lead this pioneering organization, which is the only institute in the world exclusively dedicated to research, development, training, and extension activities in the tasar silk sector.
Established in 1964, CTRTI has been providing scientific and technological support for the development of tropical and temperate tasar sericulture, a tribal-based rural enterprise that sustains the livelihoods of thousands of families across the country. Over the years, the Institute has played a significant role in developing innovative technologies, strengthening the scientific foundation of tasar culture, and promoting sustainable growth of the sector.
With a network of six Regional Sericultural Research Stations (RSRSs), three Research Extension Centres (RECs), one P4 Breeding Station, and one Raw Material Bank, CTRTI delivers state-of-the-art technologies and services to stakeholders across its command states. These units actively undertake field-oriented research, technology transfer, training, and extension activities to address the evolving needs of the sector.
The Institute’s focus has been on developing and disseminating cost-effective, eco-friendly, and farmer-centric technologies to enhance productivity, quality, and income throughout the tasar value chain. Recent initiatives in promoting micro-entrepreneurship, community-based producer institutions, by-product utilization, and partnerships with corporate organizations and NGOs are contributing to sustainable tribal livelihoods and inclusive growth.
CTRTI works closely with fifteen tasar-producing states and collaborates with research institutions, universities, industries, and development organizations to advance scientific innovation, human resource development, and extension services. As we move forward, our commitment remains steadfast towards strengthening research excellence, promoting technology-driven growth, and empowering stakeholders across the tasar ecosystem.
This website provides a window into our research, developmental activities, and achievements. I invite researchers, entrepreneurs, policymakers, industry partners, and all stakeholders to explore our initiatives and join us in our mission of making the tasar sector more productive, sustainable, and globally competitive.
I welcome your valuable suggestions and feedback, which will help us serve the tasar community more effectively and contribute to the socio-economic development of rural and tribal communities.
