Director Message

I am extremely privileged to lead the pioneer organization, Central Tasar Research and Training Institute (CTRTI) of Central Silk Board (CSB) as its Director, which is the only institute in the world dedicated to the Research Developmental activities in tasar sector. CTRTI, Ranchi was established in 1964 under the aegis of Central Silk& Board to provide Research & development support to tropical and temperate tasar, a tribal based rural microenterprise in the country. With its network of 6 Regional Sericulture Research Stations (RSRS), 3 Research Extension Centres (REC), one P4 Breeding Station and one Raw Material Bank, CTRTI provides the state-of-the-art technological know-how to the stakeholders in the command states. The Nested units of the Institute have taken the responsibility of transfer of technology, training, extension activities and conducting field oriented research.

The emphasis of the Institute has been development and dissemination of cost effective and eco-friendly technologies involving the field functionaries and the industry for maximisation of yield and return. The recent initiatives leading to establishment of replicable models of micro-entrepreneurship, across the tasar value chain, community driven producer institutions,research on by-product utilization, engagement with corporate and NGOs etc., would further help in creation of sustainable tribal livelihood.

CTRTI works in coordination with 15 States for achieving excellence in the development of appropriate technologies as well as their popularization in the field, human resource development and other consultancy services. The Institute has forged collaboration with several Institutes, Universities, Corporate and NGOs to address the gaps in scientific expertise in highly specialized fields, development, training and extension services.
