To emerge as a globally recognized centre of excellence in tasar sericulture through cutting-edge research, innovation, capacity building, and technology dissemination for sustainable livelihood development and ecological conservation.

Mission

The Institute is committed to:

  • Conducting frontier and applied research on tropical and temperate tasar sericulture.
  • Developing high-yielding, climate-resilient and farmer-friendly technologies.
  • Conserving and improving tasar silkworm genetic resources and host plant biodiversity.
  • Strengthening seed production systems and quality assurance.
  • Promoting eco-friendly production technologies and integrated crop management.
  • Building the capacity of farmers, entrepreneurs, scientists, extension personnel and students.
  • Supporting State Governments through technical guidance, policy inputs and collaborative programmes.
  • Enhancing value addition, entrepreneurship and market competitiveness in the tasar silk sector.

Mandate

CTRTI undertakes multidisciplinary research covering every component of the tasar silk value chain, including:

  • Tasar silkworm breeding, genetics and biotechnology
  • Host plant improvement and agroforestry
  • Soil health and nutrient management
  • Pest and disease management
  • Seed technology and grainage management
  • Crop production and production forecasting
  • Value addition through byproduct utilization
  • Post-cocoon technology and silk quality improvement
  • Socio-economic studies and livelihood analysis
  • Climate-resilient and sustainable sericulture
  • Generation of trained manpower
  • Technology assessment, refinement, validation and transfer

The Institute integrates laboratory research with field validation to ensure that scientific innovations are translated into practical, cost-effective technologies for farmers and entrepreneurs.
